CRAM Academy provides tutorial services for students who have challenges in mathematics. According to statistics, many of the eight grade students in our local community have failed Algebra I. One reason is that they never demonstated the basic skills necessary to be successful in Algebra I. However, at CRAM Academy our philosophy is to discover ways to wor in the solution and not focus on the problem.
Our Algebra workshops give extra help to students who received a grade of F, D or C in Algebra I for any semester during the academic school year. These workshops assist students in increasing academic achievement by mastering skills related to integers and solving equations, inequalities, proportions, and linear equations.
The goals and objectives of the program are as follows:
To increase student achievement in selected Algebra I skills
To have students master selected skills with 80-95% accuracy
To increase students' confidence to excel in Algebra I the next school year
To enable students to reason competently, think constructively and to understand basic skills for Algebra I preparation
CRAM Academy will ensure that students will be successful in this program by implementing the following strategies:
Examining students mathematical and algebraic reasoning by having students talk aloud their thought process while deriving answers to problems.
Providing immediate feedback to students from math coaches.
Designing instruction for students to eliminate math phobia thus encouraging students to ask questions if there is a lack of understanding.
Striving to increase student achievement by teaching for understanding.
